Who is Dr Laverne and what’s it like visiting the practice?

If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people.

The word doctor comes from the Latin word teacher and means “to teach.”

It has taken me a while, but I’ve finally come to a satisfactory answer to the question ‘what do you do?’ The answer it turns out is quite simple: I continuously learn about life, health, healing, the true causes of disease and illness, and I share what I have learn’t. This is my true passion and calling.

Over the years my experiences and learning have led me to a deep belief in the body’s inherent wisdom, and our immense capacity to heal and recover. Life is regenerative and intelligent. We are so resilient! With a near unlimited ability to adapt. I think it is so important to remember that now during this time of crisis.

What’s it like visiting the practice?

My practice runs on three foundational principles:

  • Root cause resolution
  • Holistic care
  • Participatory medicine

Whether it is an acute condition needing treatment or a chronic health issue, the focus of  a natural, alternative system of medicine like Chinese Medicine is always on root cause resolution. In other words, learning what healing looks like and supporting our body’s natural processes.

It is also participatory medicine. You the client participate in your care. In fact, you are the main agent of change. How empowering!

Just as no two people are alike, neither should their treatment be alike. One of the many things I love about Chinese medicine is the recognition of, and respect for, all the ways in which an illness can manifest in different people. There is no one size fits all treatment. Only the best approach for that person, at that time. Always taking into account and respecting the persons wishes.
